1907 2 1/2d orange-yellow mint with variety imperf. between in vertical pair, trimmed perfs on three
side, two light horizontal creases and slightly heavy hinge remnant, fine and rare (S.G. £7’500).

1916 (Apr 4) envelope endorsed at top “Passed censor / AKMCS / D/O Kieta”, sent registered to a bank
in Australia and franked with strip of four 1914-23 1d red tied by Shortland cds with Tulagi registration
label adjacent, “PASSED BY CENSOR” hs below, reverse with Tulagi and Brisbane arrival ds, water
staining at foot, unusual.
Note: Kieta is a port town located on the eastern coast of the island of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea.
Following the outbreak of World War I, the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force occupied
Bougainville in December 1914, as part of the broader Australian occupation of German New Guinea.
The Australians didn’t intern the Germans but allowed them to be “on parole”.

in Austria, including registered mail, noted 1927 (12 Jun) cover with Wmk Script CA 2d grey and 4d
black and red/yellow tied Vanikoro cds, manuscript registration at left with large violet manuscript “R”
added in transit, seven covers sent registered from Tulagi, other registered covers with white labels
from Gizo and Shortland (2), parcel piece for package containing Baby Clothes franked damaged 5d
plus two 2/6d control pairs on registered covers; some mixed condition.
