1840 1d black, a magnificent used “set” of the 12 plates from 1a -11, each stamp a carefully selected
marginal inscription example with good margins on other sides, all except three cancelled by red
Maltese crosses, only AD with small repair at right, a stunning set which would be incredibly difficult to
replicate, and a superb intro page to any high class exhibit. Certs for all impressions.

forwarded from Malta, then posted at ‘T.P. Ebury St’ + at back red shield pmk ‘SP 9 1841’, interesting
contents, a very fine and extremely scarce item, cert. K. A. Louis stating “only 2 such covers known to
me to date”.

Lincoln, with crisp strike of black MC applied upon arrival in London (presumably as a result of the Post
Office’s attempts to deter re-use). A scarce and unusual item.
