1791 Folded entire from Dublin to Robroyston near Glasgow, showing endorsement on reverse “The

postmaster of Glasgow is requested to send this letter by express to Miss Landiss of Robroyston”, the

Irish “2/9” in red which would signify payment of the letter in Scotland but aapears that red in Ireland

means non-payment thus the Scottish “2/9” has been applied in black, unusual.

1796 (7.4) Folded entire sent from Kenneth McCaskill at the Loughlinstown Camp, addressed to

Edinburgh, showing Dublin black departure Bishop mkg in black and a red arrival, an unusual and

scarce item from this little know Camp

Note: The Loughlinstown Camp (1795 - 1798) - The Camp was established in 1795 by the English

Viceroy, Lord Camden, following advice from Colonel Napier that the soldiers therein could be used to

defend Killiney Bay or Dublin City from a potential Napoleonic invasion.

1797 (28.7) Folded entire sent to Dublin, and redirected to Donaghadee, rated “1/2” being deleted and

rerated “8”, showing faint but clear strike of the scarce black dotted oval T * OFF, Dublin Bishop JY/27

bs, very fine and scarce on internal mail and the rarest of the two types of T.Off mkgs.

Note: The phrase Takings Off (T.OFF) was used within the Post Office for the accounting calculations,

usually applied to incoming redirected letters when the rate was adjusted.

showing clear strike of the scarce black dotted oval T * OFF, MY/6/97 bs, very fine and scarce and the

rarest of the two types of T.Off mkgs.

many different Uniform Penny Post “1” due handstamps all black, fine group with strikes in above

average quality (28).

red and inexplicably an unframed “T• OFF” (Treasurers Office) hs, rated “8” and uprated to “1/4”, cvr

flaps missing, a very fine and rare usage of T.Off mkg (DF No.207).
