Introduction
Dear Collector and Client,
After the fantastic success of the Silvio Canani Collection of Cancellations on
Bull’s Eyes in May, we have continued our momentum with Latin America in
our Winter 2025 auction series with this specialised catalogue of Latin America
& USA. This catalogue of over 340 lots grew quite organically with various
consignments arriving in Geneva from a multitude of vendors, and features single
lots and collections, including important collections offered intact which are ideal
opportunities to kick-start a new collecting area or exhibit collection.
One of the highlights of the catalogue is the Arturo Codina Gold medal collection
of Cuba Errors & Varieties 1892-1962, which is believed the be the most complete
collection of its kind. We have split his exhibit collection into two parts; Cuba
during US Occupation (lot 30207) and the Republic (lot 30227). His pride and joy
though seems to be his incredible large-part reconstruction of 1860 Y-1/4 stamps
(lot 30205), which is missing only 24 stamps and includes several mint blocks.
Another strength in this catalogue is the section of Brazil, which includes a
comprehensive collection of cancellations from 1840s to 1890s with an estimate
of CHF40’000 to CHF60’000 (lot 30131), as well as specialised collection lots
of the Bull’s Eyes, Inclinados, Verticais and Dom Pedros, plus single stamps and
covers with unusual and rare postmarks.
Throughout this catalogue, and in fact throughout the Winter auction series, we
have an important range of airmail and Zeppelin stamps and covers, including one
of the great Zeppelin and airmail rarities, the Brazil 1930 Parahyba Provisional
“5” handstamp on 20.000r on postcard (lot 30118). The popular and attractive
Colombian Compañía Colombiana de Navegación Aérea and SCADTA stamps are
well represented. And another couple of superb collections offered intact are the
collections of Bolivia airmail stamps (lot 30019) and the Maxwell collection of
Nicaragua airmail stamps (lot 30268), that are both ripe for developing into top
exhibition collections of these areas.
The David Feldman team strives for excellence in the lotting and promotion of
every property entrusted to us, and we’d like to thank all our vendors for showing
their faith in us to present their items and collections in a catalogue worthy of
displaying their philatelic treasures in their best possible light. We wish you
success with your bids and satisfaction with your purchases.
