1898 flimsy sent from the U.S.S. “St Louis” to Key West naval base by CARRIER PIGEON, the message
of thanks from Capt C.F. Goodrich to Rear Admiral C Carpenter (the commandant of the U.S. navy yard
at Portsmouth, N.H.), handstamped ‘Property of Navy Yard, Portsmouth, N.H.’ A very rare example of
pigeon post used during the Spanish American War.

The Codina specialised collection of 1899 surcharges on United States issues with deformed or broken
letters, plate number marginals, 2c. with inverted surcharge used, Cuba at base unused and in a horizontal
strip of five showing the progression of variety, CUPA error on cover, 3c with multiples, 5c CUPA variety
on 2c stationery envelope with misplaced surcharge x 2, 10c including very rare Type II which was from a
special printing for Paris International Exposition, two examples showing only a small part of CUBA at top
unused with slight faults, Special Delivery blocks of six and plate block of six with no stop after Cuba variety,
Postage Dues including 1c overprinted small specimen unused with slight fault, 2c inverted overprint used
(3, one damaged). A rarely offered intact collection representing many years work by a dedicated philatelist.
