The sale of the first part of

the Tomasini Collections

of Classic Great Britain and

Sicily, offered on 26 March

2026, saw almost every lot

find a new home, confirming

our proven ability to handle

the greatest collections and

successfully bring them to

today’s market environment,

even in segments that

have experienced subdued

conditions in recent times.

Both collections,

distinguished by their rigorous

construction and scholarly

approach, demonstrate

that rarity, condition and

provenance remain decisive

factors in defining results.

Part I – Results highlights

Including some

outstanding philatelic

treasures not seen for

over six decades!

of Classic

Great Britain

& Sicily

The second part of the

Tomasini Collections, to

be offered in early autumn

2026, will present a further

selection of material

of comparable calibre.

Continuing the same rigorous

standards of formation,

it will include numerous

outstanding pieces combining

rarity, condition, and

distinguished provenance.

We invite collectors to take

part in this forthcoming

auction and to consider the

many opportunities it will

offer to acquire material of

notable quality.

Part II of both collections coming

early autumn 2026

Introduction

Dear Collector and Client,

It gives us pleasure to present this paperless catalogue

of Europe, Overseas, Collections and Thematics. The

auction will start at 10am on Thursday June 18th. The

section of Egypt at the end will start the next day at 10am.

This Europe section features particularly strong

sections of Greece, Italian States and Italy, as well as

better German States and Germany, Luxembourg and

Romania. The Overseas features our usual offering of

Egypt at the end. And in between is a section of all world

collections and estates as well as thematic interest.

The Greece includes an attractive range of Large

Hermes Heads including some fabulous collections,

including lot 30400 which includes over 13’000

stamps! This is followed by stand-out essays and

proof material from the 1900s to 1960s, as well as the

final part of the Kalocsai collection of 1896 and 1906

Olympic Games.

The Italian States features a stunning section of

the Trinacria and Savoy Cross issues of Napoli, the

vast majority plated, including varieties and usages

including on complete newspapers and on cover.

There are also some knock-out frankings from

Modena, Papal States and Tuscany (including the

office favourite, lot 30740, an 1853 cover sent to the

Shetland Islands!). In Italy, we starts with some rare

proofs and essays from the Dr. Azizkhan collection

and finishes with plenty of attractive collection lots.

Two particular properties I’d also like to highlight

include the estate of the late Stewart Gardiner FRPSL,

which mostly features in the Europe and Overseas

catalogue (all noted in the description as . Stewart was

an extremely friendly, warm and gentle person, and

would always come to chat with me during the quiet

moments during the Scottish Congress in Perth. He

also had a very good philatelic eye and was an unusual

collector in that he dabbled in buying and creating

specialised collections from all over the world. Most

of his lots are being offered intact, but we had to make

the aforementioned Tuscany cover to the Shetlands a

single lot at least! Please also see his stunning Large

Gold medal collection on Sealing a Letter, which is lot

10299 in the GB & Empire catalogue.

The other property worth mentioning that is spread

throughout the auction series are the working material

from Sperati, featuring glass clichés he used to

produce his forgeries, proofs, printed stamps as well

as documentation and literature (see lots 32120-129

in the collections section). You can find all these lots

easily on our website by selecting “Sperati” from the

list of categories on the auction lot listing.

And finally the Egypt section at the end pretty much

spans the whole collecting area, with over 400 lots

including foreign offices, definitives from the first

issue onwards, Commemoratives and back-of-the-

book issues, with essays, proofs, control blocks,

varieties, etc. throughout.

The David Feldman team strives for excellence in the

lotting and promotion of every property entrusted to us,

and we’d like to thank all our vendors for showing their

faith in us to present their items and collections in a

catalogue worthy of displaying their philatelic treasures

in their best possible light. We wish you success with

your bids and satisfaction with your purchases.
