Gupta Empire, Chandragupta II, c. 380-413, AV dinar, 7.77 g. (18 mm). Obverse: ‘chhatra’ type; king wearing a cap

with beaded string, standing left, sacrificing on a fire, attendant at right holding parasol (chhatra) over the king,

circular Brahmi legend around. Reverse: Lakshmi, standing left, holding long-stemmed lotus flower in her left hand,

and twice-coiled diadem in right, with tamgha to left and Brahmi legend to right, vikramadityah. Kumar, TOTGE 2024,

Class I, variety C. Raven, CG2/group 2. A rare variety.

About VF, with an excellent reverse. Ex Chand Collection British Museum no 3.1.56.

Brahmi legend around. Reverse: Lakshmi, standing facing on beautifully preserved lotus with petals upwards, holding

long-stemmed lotus flower in her left hand, and diadem in right, with tamgha to left and Brahmi legend to right,

vikramadityah. Kumar, TOTGE 2024, Class I, variety A4. Raven, CG2/group 3.

The distinct variety in which the king is seen dropping oblations on to the fire altar and the goddess on reverse is

standing facing.
