Gupta Empire, Chandragupta II, c. 380-413, AV dinar, 7.78 g. (17 mm). Obverse: Chhatra type; king standing left,
clothing details as in previous coin but worn away, offering oblations on a fire altar, with left hand on hilt of sword;
attendant at right with left leg bent up and holding parasol (chhatra) over the king, circular Brahmi legend around.
Reverse: Lakshmi walking to left, holding lotus flower in her left hand, and long diadem in right, with tamgha to left
and Brahmi legend to right, vikkramādityaḥ. Kumar, TOTGE 2024, Class I, variety C, 2. Raven, CG2/group 7.

riding horse right, without halo and carrying no bow, circular Brahmi legend around. Reverse: Lakshmi with halo,
seated left on wicker stool, traces of backrest in the form of a dotted line upward along the legend holding long
diadem and prominent, long-stemmed lotus, legend at right, ajitavikrama, tamgha left, dotted border around. Kumar,
TOTGE 2024, Class II, variety A, 3. Raven, CG2/group 1. An early and very rare type that still retains part of a backrest
for the goddess.
VF+, with an attractive obverse, struck slightly off-centre with some loss to horse’s head, some lustre shows through.
