1895-1900 group of four covers incl. 1898 (May 16) OHMS envelope sent registered to England franked
on the reverse with 1897-98 1s black top right corner marginal with sheet number “0248”, 1898 (Jun
22) envelope to Switzerland with Sierra Leone 1897 Fiscals 1d (small fault) and 2 1/2d on 6d type 8
along with Niger Coast 1897-98 2d lake and Liberia 2c all tied by Freetown cds, 1895 (Jun 28) envelope
from Bakana to England with 1894 1/2d to 5d tied by Bakana code “C” cds, Birmingham arrival, and
used in Southern Nigeria 1900 (Jul 12) Niger Coast 2d registered envelope sent to England with two
1897-98 1d vermilions tied by clear strikes of the Asaba registered oval ds (Proud R1, probably the
earliest recorded use on cover as it predates Proud’s record by 4 months).

Collection: Small accumulation on 3 double-sided stockpages and a small stockbook, incl. an attractive
range of Niger Company Territories cancels from Burutu and Akassa on pieces (many with complete
strikes) incl. the scarce bevelled cornered Burutu on 2 1/2d, Akassa type 4 on five 5d and 2s6d piece,
some 1892-94 issues with various cancels incl. specimen set (1s tone spot) and a 2d bisect on piece
which looks genuine, Northern Nigeria issues incl. manuscript cancels, 1894-98 issues incl. two 1/2d
on 2 1/2d used (one toned), some forgeries, etc., an interesting mixed lot.

1900 (Jun 3) large OHMS envelope sent registered to England with 1900 1d in pair and two strips of
three cancelled by manuscript “Post Office / Jebba / 3-6-1900” in red, vertical filing folds clear of
stamps, minor imperfections to stamps as to be expected, London arrivals on reverse, a spectacular
franking with this pen cancel.

Asaba: 1900 (Feb 13) envelope from Asaba to England with GB 1881 1d lilac tied by Asaba double
circle ds, with “T” hs on arrival cancelled by Plymouth duplex but still with ms “2d”, reverse with
Forcados River and Birmingham arrival, a most unusual GB used abroad cover; ex Glassco (still on
original stockcard).
